APIs

What are APIs?

Open APIs allow for ease of integration with third party applications, legacy systems, vertical applications, and backend databases, enabling the connection and exchange of critical data to increase efficiencies and improve CX.

An application programming interface (API) is a defined way for one piece of software to request data or actions from another. In a contact center, APIs connect the agent desktop and routing platform to CRMs, order systems, knowledge bases, workforce tools and reporting platforms. Open, documented APIs let teams build these connections without custom changes to the core product.

APIs matter because agents and AI tools are only as useful as the data they can reach. Typical uses include pulling customer records into a screen pop, writing interaction outcomes back to a CRM, triggering workflows in back-office systems and exporting data for analytics. When assessing a platform, buyers usually look at API coverage, documentation quality, authentication and security, rate limits and versioning.
